Switzerland's SIX exchange has joined the Science-Based Target Initiative , which is a set of targets and initiatives that are used as a benchmark used by a number of other climate initiatives, the exchange said in a statement on Wednesday.
With that in mind, the exchange has committed to reaching zero net emissions by 2050 «at the latest» as part of the global efforts enshrined in the Paris Climate Agreement inked in 2015 to reduce global warming to under 2 degrees Celsius by 2050.SIX itself is also active in acquiring and offering data to help clients get better insights into emissions, as finews.com reported.
At the time Shai Popat, one of the managing directors at SIX said that «as well as providing insights to help understand regulatory trends centered on carbon emissions, the data better facilitates informed decision making of individual investors when it comes to understanding the impact of the entire supply chain».
Accompanying the announcement of the goals today, SIX CEO Jos Dijsselhof said «This is a big step for our company and an integral part of our ESG strategy. Operating financial market infrastructures at the interface of capital and business puts SIX in a unique position to drive forward the attainment of climate targets right across the industry».
