Aberdeen Investments appoints Caroline Hertrich as Head of UK & EMEA ETF Strategy to drive growth in the European market. With over 15 years of experience, Hertrich aims to leverage active ETF strategies and expand the company's presence in the region.

Aberdeen Investments expands its presence in the European ETF market with the appointment of Caroline Hertrich as Head of UK & EMEA ETF Strategy. This new position aims to drive the growth of the ETF business in the UK and EMEA region.

Hertrich brings over 15 years of experience in ETFs, index investments, and investment solutions across Europe and the USA. Most recently, she held a position at Bloomberg as Index Sales Lead for Buy-Side clients in the UK and Ireland. Prior to that, she served in leadership roles at FTSE Russell and BlackRock, where she focused on ETF product strategy, sales, and client relations in European markets.

Strategische Expansion in Europa

At BlackRock, she was also responsible for parts of the product lifecycle for EMEA investment offerings and supported the use of ETFs by institutional investors. The appointment is part of Aberdeen's strategy to replicate the success of its US ETF business in Europe. The US business managed approximately USD 21 billion as of September 15, 2026, and had doubled its volume in 2025.

Aberdeen claims to be the third-largest provider of commodity ETFs in the USA based on assets under management. Now, the focus is shifting to strengthening the European business. Steven Dunn, Global Head of ETFs at Aberdeen Investments, sees further potential, particularly in active ETFs.

'Europe is still in an earlier stage of ETF market development than the USA, but interest is growing, especially in active strategies,' said Dunn. Aberdeen intends to concentrate on areas where the asset manager has a differentiated offering and clear customer demand. Hertrich also views the European ETF market as being on the brink of a new development phase.

Fokus auf aktive ETF-Strategien

She notes that investors are increasingly seeking investment ideas that can be implemented through flexible and easily accessible structures, particularly in the active ETF space. In her new role, she will translate Aberdeen's global ETF strategy to the UK and EMEA region. This involves collaborating with investment, product, sales, and marketing teams to expand the platform and develop new ETF capabilities.

The move comes at a time when asset managers are increasingly positioning themselves with active ETF offerings in the European market. For Aberdeen, this will be an opportunity to demonstrate how it can differentiate itself from established providers in specific segments.
